Recently, I was walking through a field when I unexpectedly fell into a puddle. My life feels like one continuous rollercoaster, and I’m sure you can relate to that.
Fortunately, there are some amazing things hidden beneath the earth—entire wondrous kingdoms and secrets waiting to be uncovered. Tombs! Caves! Treasures?!? There truly are several beautiful discoveries lying under the dry crust of your world in Minecraft Pocket Edition.
However, this is typically only true for the realm of Minecraft PE, and I’m not particularly knowledgeable about the puddle I’ve landed in. Now, I find myself trapped deep within it. It’s challenging to write with my eyes filled with mud and my laptop covered in dirt, but I’ll do my best!
Before I was blinded by the muck and started smelling like a cow, I had the fortune of experiencing the world of La Faille created by MrBatou. This stunning lost kingdom lies deep within a cave in MCPE, illuminated by light streaming through cracks in the rock above, with vegetation thriving all around. The atmosphere is eerie and mysterious.
“I just wanted to create a secret cave,” says MrBatou. “I like to believe that many places are yet to be discovered. This map has a bit of a fantastical element. Imagine strolling through jungles and suddenly falling into this place.”
It’s true that there are still things on this Earth that we have yet to uncover. Not long ago, scientists found an array of new animal species deep in the jungles of Indonesia. That was back in 2006 (ask your parents), so who knows how much more remains unknown to us?
Yet, these are animals living in jungles we are familiar with. In contrast, La Faille features architecture of unknown origin, making it a mystery both in nature and design. Who built this place? Why did they leave? Gazing at it makes one ponder what else humanity has yet to discover in Minecraft Pocket Edition. Stories are still waiting to be told.
This aspect of building captivates MrBatou. “I can do whatever I want,” he explains. “I can model, create stories, and design places I’d love to visit.” Like most people, he began playing Minecraft PE in survival mode, but soon his passion for art drew him into the world of creations in MCPE. To date, he crafts stunning structures like this one.
For this project, he aimed to create a forgotten city, lost in time, reminiscent of the temples of Angkor, he shares. “They used to be very colorful, but now they’re gray and dull.” It’s no easy task to make something appear intentionally washed out and boring in Minecraft Pocket Edition, while still keeping the structure visually engaging.
Thus, MrBatou kept his color scheme minimal: “The wood has rotted, colors have faded,” he explains.
MrBatou primarily works alone, so given the news of his collaboration with Killerack, it was worth asking how he feels about teamwork. “I often work solo,” he clarifies, “but collaborating with others is also quite enjoyable. We explore new styles and techniques, plus the work gets done faster!”
