You shouldn’t judge a book by its cover or a mansion by its facade. However, that’s exactly what you’ll want to do when you see the Evergreen Villa created by Meaf in Minecraft Pocket Edition. Your first thought upon gazing at this whimsical, gothic structure embraced by the cool shadows of a dense pine forest will undoubtedly be: “Yes, vampires reside here.” Strange, stinky, bloodsucking vampires.
Yet, there are no vampires here. Just a mansion that makes you believe something magical could inhabit it.
And it’s not hard to understand why, as explained by Meaf.
“I tend to build things that draw heavily from older architectural styles—classical, Victorian, and Baroque. But my two absolute favorite styles are Baroque/neoclassicism and Gothic. Both involve such intricate and extravagant levels of detail that look fantastic when seen in real life.”
So, Meaf took his fantasy into reality, channeling it through the limitless creative engine of Minecraft PE, resulting in something truly impressive. He shared with me that the desire to “take advantage of the unlimited creative resources offered by Minecraft” was what drove him towards these imaginative constructions.
“I started with an interest in architecture and realism,” he says. “After building in this realistic genre for some time and refining various styles, the boundaries of realism began to constrain my creativity. So I shifted to fantasy to enhance MCPE and treat building as a form of art rather than just architectural recreation.”
The Evergreen Villa is art, and good art tells a story.
“It’s a tale of boasting,” he continues. “For all owners to showcase the most magnificent and majestic mansion to the world, complete with statues, landscaping, and a highly detailed exterior in Minecraft.”
The statues are stunning! “I’ve created numerous statues around the Villa: a deer, a dragon, an eagle. There’s a soldier, an angel, and my favorite statue—a goose.”
Geese are the birds of the bourgeoisie. They go wherever they please, leaving their droppings behind. They’re also quite territorial. Meaf tries to incorporate a goose into all his builds, which has become his signature after joking about it with friends.
Pigeon aside, my favorite aspect of the construction is the forest, and I had to ask him about it. It turns out it’s his favorite detail too.
WorldEdit, so I had to place each tree individually. I would fly, place, fly again, and repeat, which became quite tedious. In the end, I used about 30 different tree schematics, with 20 of them being variations of pine. Despite all that, I’d say the forest turned out really well.”
Really well is an understatement. The grandeur and intricacy of the Evergreen Villa challenge your gaze. Meaf’s mastery of block creation makes this build resemble a miniature version of real life, one you’d expect to find under glass in any museum exhibit on Baroque architecture.
