New Feature: Scoreboard!

And so, let’s dive right in by stating that no llamas were harmed during the development of this feature. If you’re playing on Windows 10, Xbox One, VR, mobile devices, or the Nintendo Switch version, you are engaging with the core edition of Minecraft Pocket Edition. This means you’ll soon be able to utilize a new feature we’re adding to this version – scoreboards!

In fact, you can start testing the new scoreboard today, but only if you’re playing the beta version of the game on Windows 10, Xbox One, or Android. Learn more about how to access the beta here.

So what exactly is a scoreboard and what does it entail? It’s a new system that allows you to set, request, or view another player’s scores. For instance, have you ever wanted to brag about how many zombies you’ve defeated? Now you can do just that, as all those numbers will automatically display on your screen when you open the scoreboard to check out both your achievements and those of your friends.

This way, we can see that a previously invisible friend who claimed to have killed 100 zombies actually only took down 25, which is nowhere near 100. So go ahead and enjoy your gameplay!

The scoreboard isn’t just handy for tracking how many zombies you’ve sent back to their graves. Players can use them to monitor all sorts of things!

You could also employ them to tally wins, kills, and deaths. Create economic systems, track progress, set timers, or record player statistics. The possibilities are endless, so download the beta version with your friends and start experimenting to discover all the features of this addition.

How to Use the Scoreboard in Beta Version.

If you’re playing Minecraft on Xbox One, Windows 10, or Android, click this lovely line of blue text to find out how you can play the beta version.

Once you’re in the beta version, you can activate the scoreboard using a command. A command is a line of text you enter to trigger something in the game. When you’re in the game, simply press any key to get started.

[1/6] – Once you’ve entered the beta version of the game, you need to create a new world. Then, on the main world creation screen, make sure to enable experimental gameplay.

[2/6] – Next, click “create.” Here I am playing Minecraft! Why haven’t I built anything cool or impressive? Because I’m too busy showing you how to use the scoreboard!

[3/6] – Press the “/” key, and this image will appear on your screen. Now you can enter commands!

[4/6] – Next, we’ll type “/ scoreboard,” and a brief explanation along with a list of suggested commands will pop up.

[5/6] – Try entering “/ scoreboard objectives add zombies_killed dummy “Killed Zombies”. As you might guess, this command will keep track of how many zombies you’ve slain. Feel free to experiment with other less useful functions.

[6/6] – Please give us feedback on this feature by selecting “Beta Feedback” from this menu. I wish Steve wouldn’t stare at me while I choose it. It’s kind of creepy 🙁

Currently, we only support dummy criteria, meaning you’ll need to manually update the scores yourself. However, with future updates, we plan to introduce automatic criteria, allowing you to track blocks broken for XP, items found, etc.

Let’s manually update the “zombies killed” criterion for the players on your team. / scoreboard objectives add * zombies_killed 1. The little asterisk indicates that this command will apply to every score displayed on the scoreboard.

[1/2] – Press the / key, then input the command “scoreboard players add * zombies_killed 1” to manually update the score.

[2/2] – And it worked! As you can see, I entered it several times to increase accuracy. Now we can watch out for liars who haven’t killed a single zombie in Minecraft Bedrock. Hehehe.

But the scoreboard isn’t just for scoring. Map makers can utilize them in all kinds of creative ways! For example, you could create a clock that greets you every 30 ticks using command blocks. Or a mini-game where you must rescue a poor llama surrounded by TNT (this is for those who just read about this feature and are worried about the llama—don’t worry, everything’s fine—we promise!)

Experiment with the scoreboard and head over to this Wiki page for Minecraft for further inspiration. As for Bedrock players on non-beta platforms, you will also receive this feature soon!

[1/2] – Set your own criteria on the scoreboard, and you can settle disputes with your friends.

[2/2] – This llama won’t answer my phone calls after I took this screenshot for you. Yes, that’s fair.

Share Your Feedback!

What do you think about the new scoreboard feature, but let’s be honest here. Is it an interesting idea at all? Well, let’s not just shout at the screen. Tell us what you think about this concept on our website.

All the aforementioned scoreboard features will be available in the next release, but we will also include new updates, launching an updated sidebar, statistics system, tags, triggers, and criteria. The more feedback we receive from you, the better we can enhance this feature.

We can’t wait for you to try out the Scoreboards and see all the amazing things waiting for you.
