What’s happening? Is the Block of the Week back? After the successful release about the musical block, I packed up all my writing tools and left, convinced that I had covered every block there was to discuss.
However, it turns out that the development team didn’t receive my note and continued creating new blocks for Minecraft. So just as I was about to leave for good, they called me back to write about yet another block. What? The Block of the Week? I have no idea how to go about this.
I have decided to reintroduce sound effects, and this week we will feature the sound of a player falling to the ground after their friend kindly broke the bottom block of the scaffolding they were standing on.
The scaffolding was introduced in Minecraft version 1.14, also known as “Village & Pillage“. These blocks were specifically designed to assist with construction: they are very easy to place and break.
To construct scaffolding, you will need six bamboo pieces and a bit of rope to tie them together. This way, you’ll create six blocks in one go. Once you’ve finished crafting, right-click on the ground to place the block. Now, the real magic begins. Right-click on the bottom block, and you’ll position a new one on top of the highest block.
What’s even more fascinating is that while navigating through the scaffolding, you won’t collide with it. By jumping on it, you’ll discover that you can move just like you would on a ladder. And here’s the most amazing feature! If you break the bottom block, the entire tower will collapse. Easy to set up, easy to dismantle — just as I promised.
Scaffolding has been in use for a very long time. Drawings etched on the walls of the famous Lascaux cave in France suggest that over 17,000 years ago, a structure resembling modern scaffolding was employed to create artwork on the ceiling. Ancient Greeks, Egyptians, Nubians, and Chinese constructed tall structures using similar devices. Many wonders of the world, including the Great Wall of China, were built with bamboo scaffolds.
