We are all familiar with the tale of Rapunzel, right? A woman finds herself trapped in a tower after losing her keys or something similar. A dashing hero arrives to rescue her but ultimately proves to be quite useless. So, Rapunzel grows her hair to astonishing lengths, lets it down from the window, and the ineffectual hero climbs up her hair to save her! Hooray! But wait, now they both find themselves stuck, locked away in the tower? Who writes this nonsense?
Anyway! I was so inspired by the story of Rapunzel that I decided to grow my own long hair! It turned out to be a terrible idea—one of the worst ever. I hired nineteen hairstylists to fix it. One of them called it “the greatest sin on a human head I’ve ever seen.” Every critic.
Fortunately, when MuhBuilds drew inspiration from the Rapunzel fairy tale, he didn’t end up with a disastrous haircut. Instead, the story motivated him to create an impressive structure in Minecraft Pocket Edition, which we present to you today—the magnificent Tower of Endurance.
This tower pays homage to fables and tales of old, along with the charming artistry often associated with them. Updated with this blocky aesthetic from Minecraft!
MuhBuilds utilized 3D models of the tower from the retelling of the Walt Disney version of Rapunzel to understand how to lay the foundations. However, he had his own narrative for this new type of tower.
As he recounts in one version of the story, the Tower of Endurance is a mirage that moves from place to place and can rarely be seen by more than one person at a time. Even in the tale presented by MuhBuilds, it’s unclear whether the tower truly exists or perhaps does not? Is someone living there?
Regarding how he managed to construct his creation in Minecraft PE: MuhBuilds began by shaping the tower and then added details and colors. After completing the initial step, he mentioned spending considerable time creating various palettes and selecting the best one. This process, as he explains, is known as texturing.
Following that, MuhBuilds worked on the piers and landscape. “The last thing,” he says, “was adding extra details and lanterns to the tower. The texturing was done consistently with the light sources, namely the lamps.”
When I asked how MuhBuilds first got inspired to build in Minecraft PE, he explained: “I was inspired by builders who were better than me. For instance, Levin, Eonly, and Dan27 from Italy. Later, I also met foreign builders who captivated me greatly, such as Udvio, Dr_Bond, and Franjo Schnabel.
He continues: “Many Italian builders helped me not only with understanding how to build correctly but also how to express emotions through construction. To transform a simple world in MCPE into a story, an idea.”
However, not everything goes smoothly. “While I was building the tower,” he shares, “I was thrilled about the project, so I stayed on the device for many hours each day. My mother was furious and took the device away from me for ten days. I had to learn a lot to convince my mother to give it back, without which I couldn’t continue building.”
Such is our love for great constructions; sometimes compromises must be made, and if one of those compromises involves learning to earn time for building in Minecraft Pocket Edition, then that’s probably not the worst outcome.
