A Belgian art student HeavensGift, also known as Ismail, has been utilizing Minecraft as a creative medium to bring his visions to life for several years now. Over this period, his skills have significantly improved. Although some of his creations may seem abstract, each one carries meaning that can be interpreted into a complete narrative.
“I don’t believe the sculpture ‘Midnight Thoughts’ is particularly complex. It took me about 40 hours to create it.”
“The concept of creating a jellyfish struck me one night while I was lying in bed, reflecting on what brings me the most joy in life,” shares Izmail. “I recalled the fantastic tales my mother used to tell me before bedtime, and that’s when the idea hit me to merge them with my favorite creature—the jellyfish. The flame emerging from it symbolizes my passion, a tangible expression of creativity. Equally important are the colors: purple with golden highlights.”
Midnight musings aren’t the only remarkable creation by Izmail. There’s also the Pumpkin King, crafted for last year’s Halloween contest. Creating such elements demands professional skills and sometimes even specialized techniques. The twisted, contorted vines forming the base of the king could easily have turned into absurd blobs in the hands of an inexperienced artisan, but Izmail managed to achieve realism.
“Building in Minecraft largely relies on knowledge of programs like World Edit and VoxelSniper,” explains Izmail, shedding light on his approach to construction within the game. “Mastering new software combined with the experience gained from all your projects provides you with a wealth of knowledge. Perhaps the toughest aspect is achieving organic shapes. You need to smooth out all constructions and ensure that structures don’t appear blocky.” Making Minecraft Bedrock less blocky? Well, that sounds great!”
My favorite aspect is the glowing pumpkins. Achieving this effect required a highly intricate and high-quality rendering process. “I take into account color and composition when designing organic forms. If the rendering is done by someone truly skilled, it will always appear impressive.”
Another organic creation showcasing Ismail’s talent for capturing moments is the Sea Queen. According to the creator, the fish surrounding her foreshadow her grim fate.
“The concept revolves around a queen proudly seated on her throne. She touches the tip of the hook that will ultimately lead to her demise. To emphasize her grandeur, I constructed a chest filled with gold and other treasures.”
