The concept of choice is central to the storyline in Minecraft Pocket Edition, which is why Telltale Games created a spin-off specifically for this purpose. It follows the journey of a particular Minecraft character, Jesse, from humble beginnings to heroic achievements. Throughout the adventure, players encounter various decisions—some minor, like the design of a statue outside a friend’s surf shop, and others quite significant. At times, the fate of friendships and even friends themselves may hang in the balance!
In the second season of the story mode, several critical questions arise: in the first episode, the player of Minecraft PE must choose between ensuring the safety of old and new friends as they face a looming threat.

So, to start off, where did the concept for these videos originate?
The idea was initially presented to me by Eric Stirpe and John Stauffer, the creative leads of the second season; they proposed a behind-the-scenes approach that really sold me on it. We began brainstorming fun and humorous “film sets.”
How does directing short-form videos like this differ from directing a larger branching episode?
In many ways, it was much simpler since we didn’t have to worry about typical concerns such as player interactions in Minecraft PE, timing between choices, etc. This is why these videos were so enjoyable to create. Essentially, it felt like working on an animated short film, and due to the more linear nature of the videos, we had significantly more time to focus on enhancing animation and truly bringing the characters and their world to life.
There’s a lot happening in the background. Are there any Easter eggs that you think fans might have missed during their first viewing?
So much occurred, and we couldn’t fit everything we wanted in. There are some shots featuring Jesse and Lucas talking, surrounded by a crowd… If you pay close attention, you’ll notice that all of them are different variations of male Jesse characters!
So, if you had to choose between Jack and Petra, who would you save and why?
This question is incredibly unfair! Both are such fun characters. However… Petra has always been the cool kid since the very first episode, someone you’d want to team up with and see what challenges you could tackle together. So I would choose Petra. Next time, Jack!
