The beta version of the Nether update for Minecraft 1.16 is now available for Xbox One, Windows 10, and Android. You can download the update here.

Biomes

Nether

  • The fog in the Nether will appear smoother.

Warped Forest

  • This biome is now accessible in the Nether of Minecraft.
  • Warped Nylium now covers the entire surface of caves along with various other unusual plant species.
  • The primary flora of this biome consists of massive, distorted fungi and glowshrooms that illuminate the surroundings.
  • The twisted forest is enveloped in a deep blue mist.
  • The air is saturated with warped spores.
  • While the distorted forest is an unusual location, it does not pose any significant threat.

Crimson Forest

  • This biome is now available in the Lower World of Minecraft Bedrock.
  • The crimson nylium now blankets the entire cave surface alongside various other unique plant species.
  • The dominant vegetation in this biome features enormous crimson mushrooms and glowshrooms that light up the area.
  • Weeping vines hang down from the cave ceilings and from the caps of massive crimson mushrooms.
  • The Crimson Forest is home to mobs such as Hoglins, Piglins, and Zombified Piglins.
  • The air is filled with crimson spores.

Soul Sand Valley

  • This biome is now available in the Minecraft Nether.
  • The primary materials found in Soul Sand Valley are soul sand and soul soil.
  • Basalt stalagmites can be found both above and below.
  • Ash swirls through the air.
  • The valley is bathed in a light blue glow.
  • This biome is populated by numerous skeletons that can pose a significant threat to players.

Blocks

  • Two new materials have emerged that resemble wood but are fire-resistant. These are crimson and warped stems.
  • Basalt blocks form part of basalt stalagmites and can be placed in any orientation.
  • New blocks include warped nileum and crimson nileum, found in their respective biomes.
  • New plants consist of Nether sprouts and both warped and crimson roots.
  • There are two new types of mushrooms: crimson and warped. To cultivate them yourself, you will need bone meal.
  • Another block introduced is the warped wart.
  • Weeping vines now hang from the base of blocks, and players can climb on them as well.
  • A new block called Shroomlight has been added, which naturally illuminates its surroundings like glowstone.
  • Soul soil has been introduced, causing flames of any fire to take on a blue hue.
  • A torch of the soul is created from the soil of the soul, which can then be transformed into a lantern of the soul.
  • By using the soil of the soul as a base, you can summon the Wither.
  • To spread Netherrack, simply combine bone meal and Nether quartz.
  • Twisted roots, crimson roots, and mushrooms can be placed in pots.

Target Block (Experimental Version)

  • As you approach the center, the signal from the redstone will intensify.
  • To craft a target block, you need to create a hay block and four pieces of redstone.
  • Since this is a test version, the target block has been included in experimental gameplay, but it may not function on certain platforms.

Mobs

Piglins

  • Piglins are hostile mobs that inhabit the Nether.
  • They often wander through the Crimson Forest, but there are chances to encounter them in the desert as well.
  • For Piglins, players are a target they will attack as soon as they spot them.
  • If you wear the appropriate attire, Piglins will treat you with more respect.
  • Piglins have an aversion to strangers. If they catch you mining or opening a chest, they are likely to assume you’re a thief and will immediately attack.
  • Piglins have a strong affinity for gold, which you can take advantage of.
  • Gold serves as currency for Piglins. If you wish to purchase something from them, toss a gold ingot at them or right-click while holding one.
  • If Piglins become very hungry, they may start hunting Hoglins. The winners of these encounters vary each time.
  • Piglins typically attack in groups. If a battle breaks out nearby, all Piglins in the vicinity will join in.
  • Dead Piglins quickly turn into zombified versions.
  • Piglins emerge from soul fire and zombified Piglins.
  • Drowned skeletons still have a strong dislike for Piglins, and they immediately engage in combat upon encountering each other.
  • Smaller Piglin variants do not pose a significant threat to players.

Hoglins

  • Hoglins are large, hostile mobs that inhabit the crimson forests of the Nether.
  • They are aggressive towards players and can easily kill or knock them off cliffs. Exercise extreme caution.
  • When defeated, they may drop pork, but this is quite rare.
  • Hoglins can be bred using crimson fungi, but you should be prepared for potential consequences.
  • As mentioned earlier, Hoglins are frequently attacked by Piglins. Sometimes one side prevails, and at other times the opposite occurs.
  • Despite their battles, it’s difficult to label Hoglins and Piglins as true enemies; rather, their conflict serves to maintain balance.
  • The smaller individuals may seem like vicious and cruel creatures, yet in reality, they resemble angry puppies without teeth.
  • If you’re looking for a way to defend yourself against Hoglins, nothing will serve you better than warped fungi.

Zombified Piglins

  • Zombified Piglins have been renamed from Zombie Piglins. They now possess ears, specifically one ear.

Netherite

  • This is a new, highly durable material found in the Nether. With it, you can enhance your diamond gear.

Effects of Netherite

  • Items crafted from netherite will not sink in lava, so you won’t have to worry about losing all your gear after a dip in molten rock.
  • Netherite items are more suitable and valuable for enchanting (more valuable than diamonds but less than gold).
  • Netherite tools boast greater durability and lifespan compared to diamond ones.
  • Netherite weapons deal more damage per hit than their diamond counterparts.
  • Netherite armor provides a knockback resistance effect, meaning arrows will barely push you back upon impact.
  • Netherite blocks can serve as a base for beacons, while netherite ingots can be used as fuel. An unexpected use, but it might come in handy for some.
  • Netherite blocks feature amazing textures!

Crafting Netherite

  • Deep underground in the Nether, you can find remnants of netherite.
  • To create a netherite ingot, combine 4 netherite scraps with 4 gold ingots.
  • You can smelt this into netherite scrap using either a regular or blast furnace.

Bug Fixes

  • The Ender Dragon no longer deals massive damage to players within seconds.
  • Mobs and players can no longer drown in lava, making breathing potions unnecessary.
  • Each type of animal will only spawn on its designated blocks.
  • When placing pumpkins, support from below is no longer required.
  • When placing gates, support from below is also no longer necessary.
  • When enchanted skulls are held by a character or stored in their inventory, they will emit a glow.
  • Flowers can now be removed from pots while keeping the pots intact.
  • Items that have not yet been picked up by players will transform into a rotating 3D model of that item, similar to how drop blocks behave.
  • A layer of podzol will appear beneath spruce trees if they are planted by the player.
  • If an iron grate is held by a character, it will display similarly to its appearance in the Java version.
  • The position of books on lecterns will match that of the Java version.
  • The top layer of snow can now be placed on composters and cauldrons.
  • In the Overworld difficulty setting for the Nether, the spawn rate of Ghasts will be reduced.
  • The player can leap out of the water while swimming, regardless of the viewing angle.
  • The grindstone has been fixed to properly un-enchant enchanted items. The issue has been resolved.
  • Particles generated by the bad omen effect are now dark green.
  • Colored glass now displays its colors on maps.
  • In the forest mansion, the floor tiles in the arena room and the anvil were incorrect. This has been corrected.
  • Players can now receive conduit effects when it rains, similar to the Java version.
  • Flowing water will no longer break cocoa beans on automatic farms.
  • If a drowned did not have a trident during its life, it will not drop one upon death.
  • Blocks will now lose their muddy state when a piston is activated.
  • It is now possible to utilize broken bows when creating dispensers.
  • The mob spawning rules have been adjusted for the Java version. Spawning has become faster and more precise. As a result, mobs will appear more frequently and accurately underground during mining and cave exploration. Areas that generate specific mobs will be processed with greater care.
  • All mobs that were saved using name tags, tamed, or bred can no longer spawn naturally.
  • Nearly all mobs that spawn naturally will automatically begin to do so when the player is at least 54 blocks away.
  • Fish will start to spawn automatically when the player is at least 40 blocks away.
  • If mobs are located within a range of 32 to 54 blocks from the nearest player, they will be unable to inflict damage for a duration of 30 seconds. Additionally, there is a 1 in 800 chance that they will begin to spawn.
  • The aforementioned rules do not apply to:
    • The Wither Boss
    • The Ender Dragon
    • The Evoker
    • The Illager Beast
    • Bees
    • The Iron Golem
    • The Snow Golem
    • The Elder Guardian
    • Villagers
    • The Wandering Trader

Sounds

  • New sounds have been introduced for bone blocks, netherrack, soul sand, nether wart, nether brick, and quartz ore.
  • When flying at high speeds on elytra, sound distortion will no longer occur.

Controls

  • Hovering over items in the crafting interface will display the item’s name. Additionally, the controls in Minecraft Pocket Edition have been improved for a more intuitive experience similar to using a keyboard and mouse.
  • You can now attack while swimming underwater by pressing the crouch button.
  • The control display has been updated when getting out of bed while submerged.

Villages

  • Increasing reputation with villagers is now more reliable.
  • Trading with farmers raises the player’s reputation more accurately.
  • Curing zombie villagers boosts the player’s reputation.
  • Over time, reputation becomes more neutral.
  • Golems now spawn faster and more precisely.
  • At least 75% of rural inhabitants are engaged in work during the day.
  • There are a minimum of 20 sleeping spots, and each villager has their own bed.
  • For every 10 villagers, only one golem will spawn.
  • Zombies that players have cured, along with residents from nearby villages, will offer goods at discounted prices.
  • The trident enchantments can now be obtained through trading with villagers.
  • Farmer villagers now sell a moderate amount of carrots.
  • Zombie villagers cannot break iron doors.
  • Cured zombie villagers previously retained only the health they had before infection; it could not be increased. This issue has been resolved.
  • During raids, villagers no longer flee near their homes.

These are all the changes and new features in the Minecraft 1.16 update!
