During the event MINECON Live, it was announced that the Piglin mob would be renamed. The developers invited players of Minecraft to suggest a new name themselves. No matter how many ideas I put forward—Baron Sweetcheeks, Wodles Junior Professor Oinkingston—they just didn’t resonate with them. In fact, some of the suggestions were so awkward that I hesitate to even mention them.
The suggestions were selected through a voting process, where users initially submitted their ideas, and then the names that received the most votes were sent to the Mojang office for discussion. The final stage involved lengthy, intense debates filled with tears and shouts, ultimately leading the developers to reach a consensus. Thus, the old mob from Minecraft Bedrock, previously known as Piglin, is now called Hoglin!
The Mojang team extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated in choosing a new name for our Piglin. Minecraft would not be what it is today without its engaged community. We are thrilled that, through our collective efforts, our beloved game continues to evolve in the right direction!
