The Fourth Dimension of Minecraft

People have been living in a three-dimensional world for thousands of years. Hasn’t anyone grown tired of it? Hardly anyone contemplates life in a realm with more dimensions; we seem to be quite content as we stroll through our surroundings, walk on the grass, and bask in the bright sunlight. Yet, no one ever considers that your next step could take you into another dimension.

If you’re seeking more excitement and danger in your life, then book a trip to the Hypercube! This puzzle map for Minecraft, crafted by FlowGD, challenges you to navigate through four-dimensional space, or 4D. There are seven levels that you’ll need to conquer. It’s not an easy task to find yourself in a realm with one extra dimension than we’re used to, is it?

Don’t worry; before you dive into the game, you’ll receive instructions on how everything works and how to play. While this information may not be completely clear-cut, getting confused right in the middle of the fun is all part of the experience!

The video below about the “Hypercube” map in Minecraft Bedrock will explain how 4D works. Your brain might have a tough time processing it. I apologize in advance if it explodes; enjoy watching!

This step-by-step video is truly mind-bending—at first glance, it appears as though the player is constantly teleporting to different locations. In a way, that’s exactly what’s happening; players seem to leap between dimensions, harnessing the incredible power of 4D technology. If you’re still unsure how this all works, don’t worry! The cartographer took just one year to figure it out…

Alright, let me attempt to clarify what’s going on here. I need to take you back in time to practically demonstrate the connections involved. But first, we’ll stick to the fundamental principles of time travel within a fixed reality… just kidding! I’ll simply share the story of how the creator of FlowGD came up with the idea for the Hypercube. It’s much simpler than that. No need for thanks.

“You perform parkour jumps that are only possible in the fourth dimension.”
FlowGD has been crafting puzzle maps in Minecraft Pocket Edition since he discovered the power of command blocks. “This was around the time I stumbled upon a map called Codex, which was quite impressive and advanced at the time,” he recalls. “It inspired me to embark on my own projects.” As is often the case when starting out, he initially lacked experience and knowledge in this new endeavor, but gradually, FlowGD honed his design skills, learning to balance work and difficulty with enjoyment. Only after a year did the concept of 4D puzzles enter his realm, thanks to a game called “Miegakure.”The Fourth Dimension of Minecraft “Miegakure” is a map where you navigate through a four-dimensional world, performing amazing feats and solving puzzles. By “amazing feats,” I mean something akin to my explanations about the concept of a four-dimensional universe. I hope I’ve made myself clear enough.
“Miegakure” is a creation by Mark ten Bosch that explores movement and interaction within four-dimensional landscapes. It’s challenging to articulate, but imagine being a 2D individual trapped inside a screen; you would be able to read these words. You could navigate in four directions: up and down the screen, as well as left and right across it. By introducing a third dimension, you can also extend beyond the confines of the screen. This serves as a basic explanation of 3D and the world we inhabit!
However, a 4-dimensional space introduces an additional axis for movement. It’s challenging for us to visualize this since we exist in a three-dimensional world and have never encountered anything beyond that. In fact, creating a four-dimensional space within our three-dimensional reality is physically impossible. Therefore, Miegakure provides us with 3D projections of its 4D universe, allowing us to grasp the concept at least partially.
Here’s another video by Mark ten Bosch that explains how 4D space works. It’s the clearest video I’ve seen on the topic! My own explanations turned out to be quite inadequate…
What appears to be teleportation in the Hypercube video is actually a successful navigation through 4D space. Impossible? Definitely! Confusing? Absolutely! Yet, it also represents an exciting new method for crafting a Minecraft Bedrock map that I, as a bored captive of our 3D realm, find hard to grasp. The Fourth Dimension of MinecraftThe signs contain step-by-step instructions for adapting to the four-dimensional world (though they are only available in English).
The Fourth Dimension of MinecraftA two-dimensional being exists within a plane, rotating and moving in such a way that it can navigate around walls to reach a gold block in a 3D world. The Fourth Dimension of Minecraft“Trenght” refers to a concept in the fourth dimension. Don’t worry; it feels as if your mind is performing a double backflip.
FlowGD has chosen to implement 3D projections within a 4D environment to enhance the accessibility of the concept. Additionally, figuring out how to make this work in Minecraft proved to be quite challenging, but FlowGD succeeded. This endeavor required an entire year spent watching videos about 4D space and conducting an in-depth study of the game Miegakure.
However, the solution he discovered is nothing short of brilliant. “The level consists of numerous three-dimensional worlds stacked on top of each other,” explains FlowGD. “Honestly, I had to manually adjust each one so that a four-dimensional entity could theoretically perceive the entire world naturally.”
“Don’t give up. I understand it can be difficult to grasp, but it’s worth it. You can do it; I believe in you!”
A 4D entity! What does it even look like? I thought endermen were creepy… In any case, you can navigate through these sections of the four-dimensional world using a portable device in the Hypercube. The goal is to locate a floating golden brick hidden within each level and reach it to advance to the next stage. To access the bricks, you’ll need to solve intricate spatial puzzles and perform parkour jumps that are only possible in the fourth dimension. It’s advisable to use the coordinate tracker at the top of the screen to keep track of your location. The Fourth Dimension of MinecraftIn the first level, you must pass through a stone wall. It’s not too hard. The Fourth Dimension of MinecraftThere is a device here that allows you to switch dimensions. Keep an eye on your position while doing this. The Fourth Dimension of MinecraftWhen you reach more complex levels where you have to navigate in darkness, the golden block will glow brightly like a beacon. The Fourth Dimension of Minecraft The “Endercube” level ramps up the difficulty by introducing extreme 4D parkour.
If you start playing Hypercube and find yourself stuck, FlowGD suggests that you try experimenting. “Review the guide in Minecraft again if needed. If it’s still unclear—check online. Don’t give up; you will succeed!” “This is indeed a challenging concept, and if you struggle—don’t lose hope.” Follow the rules and instructions, and you’ll ascend impossible staircases and teleport to icy mountains. The Fourth Dimension of MinecraftInitially, FlowGD planned for 16 levels in Hypercube but settled on seven as the optimal number. However, he still believes that more levels could be added in the future. Right now, he is focused on creating new maps, none of which are 4D, and one of them isn’t even a puzzle map.
Could this be the ultimate workout for our struggling three-dimensional minds, don’t you think?
