Imagine this scenario. You’ve just stumbled upon a vast, uncharted jungle biome while exploring your world. For about an hour or so, you navigate through the underbrush, dodging spiders, startling ocelots, and collecting melons—so many melons that it’s more than you need. Then, out of the corner of your eye, you spot a peculiar, moss-covered boulder.
This is a temple in the jungle! Constructed by the ancient ancestors of Minecraft, its rocky pillars reach skyward. Taking a deep breath, you step inside. It’s dark, damp, and has an unpleasant smell from the vines. But you know there must be treasure hidden within. Perhaps there’s something up the stairs? Not at all! Below, where it’s even darker, you light a torch. Moving down a corridor lined with vines, you finally see a chest filled with treasures! As you take a step closer, the last thing you hear is a “click” before an arrow strikes your back.
Indeed, our item of the week is the trophy hook! These sneaky devices are crafted from a few relatively simple ingredients. They’re perfect for setting traps to catch mobs, animals, or even other players in Minecraft Bedrock. To adjust the tension, you need to place two tension hooks facing each other and connect them with string. After that, all that’s left is to wait for a player to walk through the line. At that moment, you’ll hear a “click,” and the hooks will knock them out.
Now that I’ve explained how to set up the trap, I must also explain how to disarm it. You can’t simply break the trap with your hands, as that would trigger it. Instead, you can either break one of the tension hooks or carefully cut the string using scissors. This will disable the trap without triggering it.
This invention is popular in the real world as well. The earliest recorded tripwire dates back around 90,000 years, but due to its susceptibility to decay, it’s likely that the concept is much older. We know prehistoric hunters used traps that could have been constructed from wooden cages, employing tripwires to lure prey into these enclosures.
Today, such traps are still widely utilized across the globe. Soldiers have various strategies to detect these snares. Some shine green lasers along suspicious corridors, illuminating and revealing any tripwires. Another, slightly more interesting method employed by American troops involves spraying colored powder along the path.
Unfortunately, neither lasers nor powders exist in Minecraft Pocket Edition. So next time you explore a jungle temple, just remember to watch your step.
