Meet the guard

Personally, I’ve always dreamed of living beneath the waves. Far away from any other human presence (please don’t take this as an insult to those reading this article). Just imagine it! Underwater, I could dress however I wanted, even like Lady Gaga, without looking ridiculous; I wouldn’t have to wash or do laundry ever again, and I could enjoy feasting on mermaids while having my own aquatic dog (or “sea lions,” as marine biologists insist they should be called). Moreover, all underwater creatures are said to be very friendly and completely harmless, according to a silly article I stumbled upon—hooray!

In Minecraft, there are also many friendly sea beings, such as the mob we’re discussing today—the guardian. Sure, these one-eyed spiky creatures may not appear welcoming, but I’m convinced they’re sweet as pie on the inside! Right, Jens?

“I really like the guardian, and it’s one of my favorite mobs in Minecraft PE. I started working on it because I realized that the world of Minecraft needed a new underwater inhabitant, and obviously, it had to be something that could move in MCPE across all three dimensions. It ended up resembling a monster with an eye since I borrowed some ideas from my favorite mobs in another game. It began as just a simple sphere, but then I added a fin to make the guardian look more fish-like. The spikes were included to give the mob some flair and uniqueness in MCPE. Once it had spikes, it was only fitting to add some prickly behavior.” – Jens Bergensten.

These guys might be spiky, but their exterior hides a delicious interior. After a guardian is defeated, there’s a 40% chance it will drop a perfectly sliced piece of raw fish from the world of Minecraft. However! If it catches fire before dying, there’s still a 40% chance it will drop cooked fish instead. So be careful when igniting them if you want ready-to-eat meat.

Honestly, that’s not all the fascinating facts about the guardian. It shoots laser beams and can essentially live forever, even outside of water in Minecraft Pocket Edition. That’s a fact! And those lasers can inflict quite a bit of pain if you’re on the wrong side. As for its life on land: even if you manage to lure this creature out of its watery home in Minecraft, it’ll simply flop onto dry ground and squeak endlessly like a mouse on a dreadful beach vacation. Tragic.

This cruel fate should never befall beings like the guardians, especially since they serve as eternal guardians of beautiful underwater fortresses in Minecraft Pocket Edition. They may be prickly creatures, but they’re merely trying to protect the oceanic remnants of submerged strongholds. A noble cause! Now I feel like I wouldn’t want to cook one of them for dinner. Well, almost.
