Boots are among the most affordable types of armor, requiring only a minimal amount of materials for crafting: four pieces of leather or four ingots made from any material such as gold, diamond, or iron. To craft them, you need to place the materials in the lower corners of the crafting grid, as illustrated in the image below. If you’d prefer not to use your resources, you can search for boots in chests, buy them from traders, or even catch them while fishing.
It is said that to truly understand zombies, skeletons, and zombie pigmen, one must walk about a mile wearing boots crafted from these mobs. I’m not sure who came up with this idea, but it certainly sounds eerie. I suggest simply purchasing boots made of gold, iron, or diamond.
The concept of armor in Minecraft was envisioned during the game’s development phase. Initially, the developers intended to create just two types: iron and steel. However, in February 2010, when boots were introduced into the game, there ended up being five materials: leather, iron, chainmail, gold, and diamond. With version 1.0.0, a tiered system was implemented, which divided the quality of boots based on their material; the stronger the material, the more durable the footwear.
Each type of boots features several protective points, indicated by shields above the health bar. Each half shield reduces damage by four percent, with the maximum protection level available to players being 80 percent. There is also another attribute—durability, which applies only to diamond armor. This is a fascinating topic, but we will return to it next time.
