For centuries, humanity has crafted various love stories about the moon. Interestingly, we have yet to send astronauts to our lunar companion with a dozen roses and a box of chocolates. There’s something mystical and romantic about it—after all, it’s just a large sphere reflecting light, hanging in our night sky. People see rabbit faces on its rocky surface, as well as the power that resides within our hearts. Never think of it merely as a 4-billion-year-old chunk of dusty rock; it is a beautiful and radiant girl whom we adore in Minecraft PE!
However, not every love story is so difficult to reconcile. We may never have the chance to woo the moon, but today’s collection features a love story much closer to home.
Nine years ago, a builder from the game – Minecraft Pocket Edition – Shaliquinn married her husband. A few years later, his ring broke; it was a family heirloom belonging to her grandfather that needed repairs. Since then, she kept this secret hidden. Instead of giving him a new ring, she decided to create a special surprise for him to ensure he would truly appreciate it. And that’s where this build comes into play.
“This part had been on my mind for quite some time because my husband told me a story about an outcast and a farm girl who fell in love,” says Shaliquinn. “I always thought outcasts were clever foxes, and in this story, that holds true, as during the tale, she falls for a fox.” The girl discovers she possesses magical abilities and leaves to train, but before embarking on her journey, the outcast gifts her a necklace shaped like a crescent moon.
“When she wore it while leaving him, the necklace allowed her to feel a light from within connecting them, enabling them to find each other anywhere in the world.” So it resembles a tracking device! Uh… but a romantic one. “This necklace was specifically linked to his ring, engraved with a hidden fox that he wore.”
This fox ring, which Shaliquinn ordered for her husband to replace the broken one, accompanies this build, which she will use as a cover for her version of the story.
“On the day I started this build, I found myself crying,” admits Shaliquinn, “not tears of sadness, but tears of joy and love from the tale he shared with me daily. I realize that by telling me this story, I fall more in love with my husband each day.”
Nonetheless, not every stage of construction went smoothly. “My snow kept turning into snowballs,” Shaliquinn explains, “and my sand fell into oblivion. Eventually, I gave up, so I placed a piece at the bottom and manually built the structure to match the layer above, filling it block by block to prevent any collapses.”
All organic materials—trees, animals, and flowers—were also constructed by hand. “I can often work faster when it comes to such things,” confesses Shaliquinn, “but I had a very specific feeling about what I wanted, so I took extra time to ensure that the creatures and trees looked just right.”
There’s even a neat trick involved in creating beautiful shimmering ice at the center of the build: “I use grass and let the blocks below turn to dirt, then I recolor the grass one color for a lovely surface, and the dirt another—to create layers that look as natural as ice.”
If you take a close look at “The Fox” and “The Moon,” you’ll notice sparkling swirls around the trees and buildings. This is the “magic,” Shaliquinn states in Minecraft PE.
“I create a cone and use WorldEdit brushes in MCPE to make swirling colors, slowly descending blocks, removing excess blocks to leave a few parts in decorative form.” If you swap out some details with small glasses and glowing rods, consider completing the job, and you’ll have something resembling magic!
In most builds, a creator either attempts to replicate something from real life or uses their imagination to recreate it. In Shaliquinn’s constructions, there’s something more; she takes inspiration from someone else’s imagination and tries to reshape it anew, making an additional effort to enhance its appeal compared to others, aiming to create a gift for someone else, perhaps in Minecraft Pocket Edition.
“I hoped to create something beautiful, reminiscent of the story my beloved told me,” she shares. “I feel that I’ve only captured a portion of what was conveyed to me.” But I believe this is a good start in Minecraft PE.
