In the realms of poker and country music, one often hears the saying: “Know when to hold ’em and when to fold ’em.” But what if your hands don’t allow you to do either? And how should T-Rexes play when their arms are so tiny? Quoting Ian Malcolm, I would say: “Life finds a way.” Builder William Nelson has also discovered a solution for these ancient creatures.
“My first creation in Minecraft Pocket Edition was a dragon. While it wasn’t a masterpiece, it marked the beginning of my building career in Minecraft PE,” the creator shares with us.
Creatures became William’s main specialty. Despite their incredible complexity, this did not hinder his creative development.
“Creating animals or humans is quite challenging. Maintaining proportions is perhaps the hardest part,” notes the developer. Indeed, keeping proportions in any construction is crucial as it significantly affects the overall appearance. Imagine a giant head on tiny stick-like legs; it would look rather odd and unnatural.
“I had to recreate the image of T-Rexes very accurately—the figures needed to be realistic. So, I decided to obtain a 2D model image in software to better understand what to add or modify in the dinosaur models.”
All artists and designers should appreciate this approach, as it allows them to truly grasp the dimensions of a structure or sculpture.
Unfortunately, no methods help when dealing with such ancient beings. Our knowledge of T-Rex size and appearance comes solely from museums and films featuring Chris Pratt. Perhaps that’s why the T-Rex has become our author’s favorite creature.
But stepping away from that, why did the developer choose to depict them playing poker? Who emerges victorious?
“It’s obvious—the one who laughs wins; he has the most chips!”
This raises a small question: “How can we tell who is laughing and who is just angry? It seems like each of them is ready to devour the poker table!”
“The dinosaur in the middle takes second place, while the one on the left loses since he has the fewest chips. I made sure you couldn’t see the T-Rex’s cards because that would be unfair. But why is the dinosaur on the right laughing? Maybe he has a strong hand, or he’s just bluffing?
So you’ll be the judge. But don’t be too harsh—remember, they have very sharp teeth.
William drew inspiration from the famous painting “Dogs Playing Poker.” He is thrilled to have created such an amazing project that found its place within the Minecraft PE community.
“The best part about Minecraft PE is that despite its limitations, it offers endless possibilities. Artists have only a limited number of blocks, height restrictions, color constraints, and cannot create anything smaller than a block. This fosters great creativity, innovative thinking, and brilliant solutions,” the author remarks.
Dinosaur creations still evoke fear, even though they exist merely in Minecraft PE. They can instill significant terror, as experienced by our builder.
“I was creating T-Rexes on a server in a flat world and decided to step away to work on another project. Suddenly, I lost track of them! It took a lot of time and effort, but with the help of friends, I managed to find them. At that moment, I was scared to death!”
