Recently, the mobs in Minecraft: Pocket Edition have been acting quite oddly towards me. Pigs give me disdainful looks, villagers raise their eyebrows as I walk by, and the eyes of creepers glow red. “What is going on?” you might ask. The answer is actually quite simple—it’s a new animated texture pack for the Java version.
Wolves are panting heavily, chickens are flapping their beaks, and sheep… well, they just blink. Villagers glance at me as I pass by. But the most unsettling of all is the ghast. It can suddenly open its eyes to survey the surroundings, only to close them again as if nothing happened. What a terrifying creature! The creator of animated mobs, Leckashmecka, has also developed a variety of other packages. For instance, there are moving blocks. This package causes the textures of each block to continuously shift in one direction. It truly feels dizzying, as if you’re spinning on a carousel at an incredible speed and can’t seem to stop. If you’re looking to spice up your textures, check out another package—blocks made from blocks. At first glance, it appears that the assembly consists of mini-blocks, but in reality, they are standard blocks. The effect is stunning! Each block is composed of exactly 256 tiny blocks, allowing for the display of textures just as they should appear. For every individual pixel, the generator identifies the block that best matches its color.
Blocks within blocks represent one of the most intricate packages developed by Leckashmecka over eight years of work. Recently, he decided to embark on a journey back to the classic Minecraft and crafted an add-on featuring all the textures and blocks from the earliest versions of the game. “I remember the alpha days; I used to spend hours playing Minecraft. It’s fascinating to dive back into those memories. This package is like a thrilling roller coaster for every veteran player.”
Since then, Leckaschmecka has developed skills ranging from animated textures and 3D models to his latest project featuring custom sounds for Thor’s hammer.
There were no issues in creating the visual aspect: Leckaschmecka simply swapped the trident for Thor’s hammer, and that was it. The challenge lay in the sound design. “Thor’s hammer is quite heavy, so there should be sounds of slicing through the air when it’s thrown. And upon hitting a target, a dull thud should resonate.”
This is just a glimpse of Leckaschmecka‘s work; he has amassed a variety of intriguing additions in his collection. If any pack piques your interest, you can find it here. According to the creator, one of his goals is to demonstrate to people that making packs isn’t as daunting as it seems. Unless you’re thinking, “This is easier than breathing!” Well, it’s a bit more complex than that…
