The developers introduced turtles into Minecraft with the Aquatic update 1.5. The characteristics of this mob are as follows:
- health: 15x;
- dropped items: scute (1x) or seagrass (0-2x);
- experience from killing: 1-3x;
- experience from breeding: 1-7x.
When a young turtle is killed, there is a chance to obtain seagrass, while a scute can only drop from an adult mob.
Behavior
This mob spends most of its time on sand, resting at the very edge of the block. Additionally, turtles in Minecraft can swim in water (and their swimming speed is significantly faster compared to their movement speed on land).
If a turtle takes damage, it will attempt to flee. Another notable trait is that turtles will lay their eggs at the location where they were born—this is essential for their reproduction.
Enemies and Breeding
Young turtles can be threatened by all types of zombies, foxes, wolves, and ocelots. The eggs laid by turtles are vulnerable to destruction by skeletons and zombies.
To encourage turtles to breed, you need to feed two individuals with seagrass. After this, one of the turtles will have an egg in its inventory and will quickly head back to its birthplace to lay it.
After laying, there can be no more than 4 eggs. You can monitor their growth by observing the shell; once green spots appear on it, they are ready for hatching. The eggs can only develop on sand.
If you start feeding a young turtle with seagrass right after it hatches, the growth process can be accelerated by 10%.
Fascinating Facts
A baby turtle is recognized as the smallest mob in the game. To determine whether a turtle is pregnant or not, simply take a look at its belly.
