Many individuals have a fear of bees, and as we are about to dive deep into the fascinating world of these remarkable insects, it’s important to note that facing your fears is unavoidable this time. Just accept the reality that Minecraft is now buzzing with bees, and come to terms with it.
“The inspiration for my organic build came from one of the Java snapshots. Before this, I hadn’t even considered creating insects in Minecraft Bedrock. Previously, I had something somewhat similar—fireflies—but aside from that, I was far removed from this theme. However, thanks to the Queen Bee, I now have an organic category that opens up new possibilities for me.” Previous builds by Pearl featured fantastic creatures. “I usually draw inspiration from fantastical elements. Magic, deer, Spyro the Dragon, Wyverns from Icarus Riders, my wolf pack builds—all of these form the foundation of my creativity. Typically, characters represent humanoid types, accompanied by four-legged friends, fish, and everything along those lines. For some reason, I never thought about insects.” “In fact, I currently have a concept for creating arachnids that I would like to bring to life for Halloween. The bee has truly introduced me to the realm of insect-like beings, and I believe that builds based on them can offer something fresh and fun!”
A massive spider in Minecraft is just as terrifying as a beehive turned upside down.
“I understand that arachnophobia is quite common,” admits Pearl. “However, I certainly don’t want to offend those who are afraid of spiders. That said, my own arachnid creation will possess distinct characteristics that set it apart from typical members of this class.” To create a realistic bee, Pearl repeatedly modified its structure. She studied the appearance of live bees and aimed to align her work as closely as possible with them.
“I took a standard image of a bee, replicated the colors in Photoshop, and illustrated the same features I typically apply to dragons. Initially, everything was based solely on my imagination; I kept altering and rearranging things, yet I still wasn’t satisfied with the outcome. I modified the shape of the wings about four times, and only after these attempts did I realize it was time to seek assistance from the community. I presented all the wing options to them, and they voted for their preferred design.”
I’m not particularly fond of beetles, regardless of how they appear, but even I must admit that a dragon bee sounds more intriguing than frightening. According to Pearl, dragon-like wings are a favorite among the Minecraft community, but a bee designed as a dragon is something users could never have anticipated. “My favorite part of the build is probably the texturing and detailing. I enjoy adding more elements because, in my opinion, it brings the creation to life and gives it character. If I had skipped this aspect of the work, the bee would have turned out too flat and monotonous. I think I might have even had to call it a wasp instead.”
Perl has a deep appreciation for detail, and her creations resemble an enlarged version of real insects. This characteristic is what makes her work so captivating and sought after.
“Organic forms allow me to express my emotions. I can create a fire-breathing dragon and place it in the heart of a city or an alien creature with an octopus head and a gorilla body. Organic design serves as a sketch of beings and provides the opportunity to transform them into a 3D representation. There’s no specific style; instead, there’s a sense of freedom that guides me in crafting my assemblies.”
