Minecraft is celebrating its tenth anniversary! We have come up with numerous ways to commemorate this special occasion, and one of them involves your memories of the game. We invite you to join in on the celebration by sharing your most memorable experiences on Twitter using the hashtag #MinecraftMemories. It could be anything from the fright you felt when you first encountered a creeper and decided that Terraria was much safer and more enjoyable. Whatever your stories may be, we would love to read them!
Once we gather enough #MinecraftMemories, we’ll store them in our memory capture machine to relive them endlessly! create an article featuring the funniest, most interesting, and heartwarming memories. Even that time you dug deep and fell into a lava pit will be immortalized on this site (to be honest, we’re sorry for all the diamonds you lost). Anyway, just tweet about your memory and include the hashtag #MinecraftMemories; we would love to read it.
“I will never forget how many times the editorial team interrupted me while I was focused on finalizing the ‘Village and Pillage’ update. Can you please let me be now?” — Adrian Ostergaard.
“One of my favorite memories from Minecraft is when I introduced prismarine stairs into the game. Before that, my life felt cold, empty, and devoid of purpose. But now it’s filled with prismarine stairs!” — Owen Jones.
To spark your creativity for storytelling, we have gathered #MinecraftMemories from some of the Mojang team. Let’s take a trip down memory lane together:
“One of my favorite memories while working on Minecraft Pocket Edition was the London MINECON,” says Jason Major. “It was the first MINECON I attended. That day, we were set to showcase the Windows 10 version. As is often the case with such events, we were fine-tuning the build right up until the last minute, striving to ensure it was as polished as possible. We rented a conference room in our hotel, and four developers worked tirelessly on the project, fixing every little issue they could find, which ended up going on almost until dawn.”
“Before the event kicked off, I thought I had a solid grasp on the popularity of Minecraft Bedrock, but the energy and enthusiasm from the fans immediately made it clear that I was mistaken. It was at that moment I truly realized how significant the game is to them. Watching this passionate crowd of incredibly diverse players share their thoughts on our updates and simply enjoy the show (seeing content creators and streamers treated like rock stars) was absolutely fascinating! I will never forget those feelings!” — Jason Major, one of the developers.
“One of my fondest memories of Minecraft Bedrock is my passion for collecting items. I consider myself quite organized, yet at the same time, a bit of a hoarder. To me, there isn’t a single block or item that feels too mundane or boring for my collections (though, after a while, even I might struggle to handle an excess of dirt blocks in my home and lose my mind). If you look at all the houses I’ve ever built, most are overflowing with chests and various knick-knacks. However, I do make sure to label each one.” — Alice Löfgren, Head of Social Department.
“One of my fondest memories is when I created a subway system connecting me with my friends. Each station was fully equipped, both underground and above ground, and the entire route was laid out with tracks to ensure a consistently high speed. The longest journey lasted 20 minutes—just right for a little break and a cup of coffee!” — Ninni Landin, Art Director.
“Hey! I built at least half of that subway system!” — Per Lending, brother, expressing his discontent with his sister’s statement.
“One of my most cherished memories is attending MINECON for the first time. Before I became a part of Mojang, I couldn’t afford to go, even though it had always been a dream of mine. I still vividly recall walking into the massive exhibition hall, observing the construction and preparations, and simply being in awe! At that moment, I was completely enveloped by Minecraft — the game that helped me overcome depression and achieve things I never thought possible due to my insecurities. The next day, as everything was set up, I stepped out to prepare for my presentation and realized the scale of it all; I was truly overwhelmed with emotions from everything I witnessed!” — Elena Zbikhly, community manager.
“What’s my favorite memory of Minecraft Pocket Edition? I just started working here yesterday, and it might be the moment I walked into the office?” — Anna Holdosi-Simon, Producer.
“Welcome to Mojang, Anna! Share your memories with us and show us what true nostalgia feels like!” Let’s wrap up our list with a story from Java Developer Agnes Larsson:
“It was around the beginning of 2012. My younger brother, our friend, and I were playing Minecraft Bedrock. One day, we gathered at my brother’s place for one of our classic evenings, and our little world transformed into a small kingdom featuring two main villages and several military fortifications in the mountains. It was amazing, but that’s when we realized it wasn’t enough. We wanted a larger, or rather, an enormous capital for our kingdom!”
“We embarked on a journey to discover the perfect location for construction. After spending an entire day exploring, we stumbled upon a suitable plain adjacent to a stunning ocean bay and a winding river. Thus, we began erecting our first homes. However, since most of our time was spent in survival mode, we were too lazy to come up with elaborate structures. Picture a modest, tiny village; that’s roughly how our capital appeared.”
“Many years have passed since that day, and we are still dedicated to the same project. Over several months, we sought an epic name for this city. Initially, we referred to it as ‘the capital’ (or rather, ‘huvudstaden’ in Swedish). One day, we had the brilliant idea to keep it simple and just call the city Huvudstaden!”
“Despite dedicating many years to this project, it doesn’t quite measure up to some amazing builds created by other players in Minecraft. Yet, to me, it remains beautiful and cherished! We spent countless hours there, collaborating and enjoying ourselves while sharing amusing stories. It became the hub for everyone on our server, and although many new kingdoms and cities have emerged in our world since that day in 2012, Huvudstaden continues to be our grandest endeavor.”
“The city is made up of numerous palaces owned by prominent families, a royal castle, charming alleys filled with shops, museums, a marine biological research institute (established after the Aquatic update!), a royal stable, a picturesque dock area, several town squares, and more. Fun fact! The first houses we constructed are still standing; we refer to that area as the ‘old town.’”
“I hope this isn’t the end of our construction efforts, and that each year will bring even more new buildings!”
