We are all familiar with the tale of Rapunzel, right? A woman finds herself trapped in a tower because she lost her keys or something similar. The dashing hero arrives to rescue her but proves to be utterly useless. So, Rapunzel‘s hair hangs down from the window, and the Useless Hero climbs up her hair to save her! Hooray! But wait, weren’t they both stuck in that tower? Who writes this nonsense?
Anyway! I was so inspired by Rapunzel that I decided to grow my hair out to match hers! It turned out to be a terrible idea. The worst decision ever. It took nineteen hairstylists to fix it. One even called it “the greatest sin on a human head I’ve ever seen.”
Every critic could have said the same. Fortunately, when MuhBuilds drew inspiration from Rapunzel, he didn’t end up with a disastrous haircut. Instead, the story motivated him to create today’s build, the stunning Tower of Endurance.
This tower is a beautiful homage to the fables and fairy tales of old, along with the charming artistry that often accompanies them. Revamped with this blocky aesthetic using Minecraft Pocket Edition!
MuhBuilds utilized 3D–models of the tower from Walt Disney’s retelling of Rapunzel to understand how to lay the foundation. However, he had his own narrative for this new interpretation of the tower in MCPE!
As he narrates in one version of the story, the endurance maneuver is an illusion that shifts locations, rarely visible from more than one perspective. Even in the fairy tale that MuhBuilds envisioned, it’s unclear whether the tower truly exists or if anyone resides there in Minecraft PE.
Regarding his construction process, MuhBuilds began by shaping the tower before adding intricate details and colors. After this initial step, he mentioned spending considerable time “creating numerous palettes, then selecting the best one.” This process, he explains, is known as texturing.
Following that, MuhBuilds constructed a pier and crafted a lovely landscape. “Finally,” he states, “I added extra details and [lanterns] and towers. Texturing was done following a specific light source, namely the bulbs.”
When I ask how MuhBuilds first got inspired to create such a structure in Minecraft Pocket Edition, he shares: “I was influenced by builders who were better than me. For instance, Italia Levin, Eonli, and Dan27. Later, I also encountered foreign builders who deeply fascinated me, like Udvio, Dr_Bond, and Franyo Schnabel.
He continues: “Many Italian builders helped me not only learn how to construct properly but also how to express emotions through building. To transform the simple world of Minecraft PE into a story, an idea.”
However, not everything went smoothly. “While I was building the tower,” he recounts, “I was thrilled about the project, which led me to stay at the computer [PC] for many hours over several days. My mother was furious and grounded me from the PC for ten days. I had to work hard to convince her to let me use the PC again in MCPE.”
Since we appreciate great builds, sometimes compromises must be made, and if one of those compromises involves learning to manage time for building, it’s probably not the worst thing. I mean, look at me. I never studied, and now I’m working at Mojang! Ah, bad example.
