If you were wandering through a desert, taking in the vastness around you or suffering from thirst under the scorching sun, and suddenly spotted the border town of PlasmaticStatic on the horizon, your first thought might be that it’s likely a mirage—quick, where’s the water? The first thing that catches your eye is the massive wall and the long path leading into the city amidst the blazing sand, with fantastic colors: neon, orange, and black. It stands out like a majestic striped tiger, something you wouldn’t encounter in everyday life, unlike in Minecraft Pocket Edition.
But I don’t traverse deserts daily, so how would I ever come across such a city?
It’s these striking orange and black hues that make the walls of PlasmaticStatic my favorite aspect of the build. “These walls and colors truly elevate the tower, towering over both the desert and the city. I’ve incorporated numerous details along with the orange-black color scheme to create the right atmosphere and tension. This contrasts sharply with the seemingly mundane feelings within the city, which I find quite appealing.”
The city itself may appear quite ordinary at first glance, but a closer look reveals many unique details! PlasmaticStatic shares that he draws significant inspiration from the cyberpunk genre as well as various futuristic inventions found in Minecraft. “I’m also a big science enthusiast; you can see this throughout the build, for instance, with the 3D printed crane creating new structures.”
He has crafted this project not just for his own enjoyment but for others as well. “In the style of cyberpunk housing that I created, I used a mix of strange and unusual shapes along with diverse window designs to add depth and interest to the build.” It seems he was very successful in his endeavor since each building is distinctly different, showcasing his original vision. I particularly admire the use of triangular walls. And of course, no futuristic city would be complete without flying vehicles, and there are plenty of them!
However, beyond the wall, things aren’t all high-tech. In fact, they are ruins of an ancient civilization lying next to this enclosed metallic city. “I added those last,” explains PlasmaticStatic. “The remnants of this lost city have merged into a larger one, while the ruins left behind decay outside the wall, now uninhabitable in Minecraft Bedrock. This resulted in a dystopian feel for the desert.”
“I’ve always enjoyed creating places that have turned into abandoned ruins, losing all semblance of human order,” he adds. “Unlike proper buildings, ruins can be twisted and deformed however you like, allowing everyone to feel more in touch with wild conditions.”
Ah, there’s certainly more creative freedom when crafting something broken! Yet, PlasmaticStatic still ensures a consistent layout throughout the entire structure, especially in this part of the build. Creating a strong atmosphere for a place that has been lost isn’t easy.
“The ruin structures bear some resemblance to what they once were, but the walls barely hold together, and roofs have long since collapsed. They’ve also been subjected to nature’s elements over the years,” he states. “Using cobblestone and iron block walls gives the impression of a structure that has crumbled down to its load-bearing components, with many buildings filled with sand.”
All these details meant that PlasmaticStatic spent considerable time working on this project. “It took me several months. I’m not a fast builder, and my motivation waned a few times,” he admits. He started with what inspired him most strongly. For example, the wall serves as the main focus of the build, and he had a clear image in his mind of how he wanted it to look, providing ample motivation for construction.
Don’t plan everything down to the smallest detail, or else some of the joy will fade away.
“After that, I built the highway to serve as a focal point around which I could design. There, I planned the city and terraforming the desert, adding more and more details to the Minecraft build until I finally saw it completed. All of this feels incredibly inspiring to me, yet the city appears almost too perfect, as if something sinister should lurk within… Perhaps it does.”
“I honestly didn’t know whether I planned for the project to turn out this large,” confessed PlasmaticStatic. “I definitely never undertook anything this grand before. But that’s what experiments are for—to push boundaries. Plus, I never had a completely clear plan. Just by joining the Builder’S Refuge server, I immediately wanted to create something impressive and prove to myself that I could do it!”
This also meant he learned a lot during the process. “Step by step, and then you’re at your goal! Sometimes the vision of how a building will look in your head can hinder progress; don’t plan it down to every little detail because you’ll face challenges along the way. Overall, I enjoyed the build and am proud of my results. I love how I can bring my imagination to life using Minecraft Bedrock, as it’s a great visual representation.”
I agree! This build showcases such diversity, from the elegant gray hospital to blue glass houses, from ancient ruins to the imposing fantastical wall, and from the arid desert outside to the lush park inside. It feels like something new awaits around every corner. So, as they say: onward and upward!
