Inventory: Eggs

Happy upcoming Easter! It’s a day when some celebrate the resurrection of Jesus, while others eagerly anticipate colorful eggs, an abundance of sweets, and of course, traditional cakes. Unfortunately, in Minecraft, none of these delights exist, so we’ll have to make do with regular eggs.

Eggs were introduced in Minecraft Bedrock during version Alpha 1.0.14, which was released in July 2010. They made their debut alongside chickens, leaving us without a definitive answer as to which came first. At the request of a fan who promised to eat a flash drive if egg throwing was added to the game, this feature was implemented in beta version 1.0. Sadly, there is no record of what happened to that individual. Kids, don’t eat flash drives.

Inventory: EggsIn Minecraft, eggs are obtained in a manner similar to real life. You need to locate a chicken and follow it for a while, waiting patiently for it to lay an egg. The duration of this wait can vary; in the game, it typically takes around five to ten minutes, possibly a bit longer. In reality, however, it could take several hours or even an entire day. If you can’t find a chicken, consider searching through chests for eggs—this method is also applicable in real life.

Here are a couple of fun activities involving eggs – crafting and throwing (but this time only in Minecraft, please don’t try this on real people). You can bake a pumpkin pie using eggs, which is quite delicious. Throwing an egg into a crowd creates the same effect as tossing a snowball – they will scatter a short distance from each other, but no one gets hurt. By the way, launching eggs from dispensers is incredibly entertaining; we highly recommend giving it a shot.

Once you throw an egg, there’s a one in eight chance that it will hatch into a baby chick, with an even smaller chance of getting four chicks from a single egg! You can fill your inventory entirely with eggs and then toss them all out to watch tiny, fluffy bundles emerge. According to our calculations, you should end up with around 81 chicks. Hopefully, you have a place for them to live.

Since ancient times, people have recognized the potential of eggs as a food source, and fundamentally, not much has changed since then—except for the fact that there are now numerous methods to prepare them. Chicken eggs are the most commonly consumed, but duck and fish eggs are also frequently utilized. In 2009, approximately 62.1 million tons of chicken eggs were produced globally, with the chicken population estimated at around 6.4 billion. That’s an enormous number of chickens.

However, here’s a fact you might not be aware of: Eggs play a significant role in the production of medicines and various vaccines. Viruses thrive and multiply within chicken eggs, making it a cost-effective and straightforward method to incubate sufficient biological material for vaccine development. This means that eggs have been instrumental in helping humanity eradicate diseases such as smallpox and polio.
