Recently, the world has been experiencing some very unusual events. People are compelled to stay at home to protect their loved ones and those who must go out to work, risking their lives for the sake of others. I’m not sure how it is for you, but for me, over the past month, my sofa has become the focal point of my existence. Looking at the bigger picture, this trend seems to have developed over the last few years…
As we find ourselves with ample free time to reflect on recent events, let’s shift our focus towards the outside world that awaits us after the pandemic subsides. You may have heard about some unexpected outcomes of the lockdown: swans returning to the canals of Venice, rivers becoming cleaner, and an increase in fish populations, among other things. While these are positive developments, it’s important to note that quarantine is not the ideal solution for addressing environmental issues. This situation has once again highlighted the significance of preserving our natural surroundings, and now we must take concrete steps aimed at its restoration.
How does this relate to Minecraft? Almost anything can be connected to it if you put your mind to it. Fortunately, I don’t need to exert much effort, so this task landed on my desk quite easily.
Minecraft enables us to craft new worlds, ranging from fantastical and futuristic to entirely realistic. Last month, the team PippenFTS created a 1:1 scale replica of the entire Earth. A second planet, albeit uninhabitable for actual humans. They have made their map available for anyone interested in joining them. If you wish to explore a virtual version of our planet, you can find more information on how to do so here.
This is a fantastic and quite effective way to draw people’s attention to the issues facing our world. Perhaps I should take a cue from them and do something beneficial? Sounds good! After all, Earth Day originated from Earth Hour, during which everyone who wishes turns off their electricity for one hour at the same time. In our case, since we are constantly at home, turning off the lights isn’t the best idea, so we’ve come up with some alternatives:
- Turn off all light sources and share spooky stories about Minecraft Bedrock. Not sure what to tell? How about your last visit to the Nether?
- Engage not only in computer games but also in board games. This is a fantastic alternative that is not only quite engaging but also, moreover, educational.
- Minecraft Bedrock serves as a creative platform for many users. For instance, creating sculptures, designing buildings, and more. Let’s bring our creativity into the real world! Grab some paper, pencils, all the necessary tools, and let’s turn our ideas into reality!
I understand that there are numerous activities that cannot be done without electricity, and not everyone can pause their projects. Earth Day is just one day. Right now, we are witnessing nature’s recovery, so why not put in a little effort to assist it?
