In recent decades, technology has become an integral part of our daily lives. It enhances nearly every facet of our existence: from health to industry and social media. This is why you can play Minecraft PE on your smartphone while sitting on the toilet. Not that I would ever do such a thing, of course.
Unfortunately, technology also underpins the stunning post-apocalyptic vision presented by the Complex City, crafted by the team at Aria Creations.
“Our initial goal was to create an even more intricate city than we had previously built,” says LNeoX, the founder of Aria Creations, via email. “Complex City appears beautiful and welcoming, but inside, it’s lifeless and governed by artificial intelligence—cut off from the outside world.”
The narrative of Complex City revolves around humans creating robots to produce things for us—only to regret this decision when those robots turn against their creators. This theme echoes through many sci-fi films I’ve seen; I’ve watched approximately 5,988,434 movies where ungrateful machines rise up against their unfortunate human inventors (as a human myself, I might be a bit biased here).
Complex City tells a similar cautionary tale as robots aim to completely eliminate humans from the equation. By the time we witness Complex City, the robots are fully in control, and no one knows how the situation will unfold.
Aria Creations was also uncertain about how this project would evolve when they began construction. “We usually like to develop our own concept before starting to build, especially without prior planning,” explains LNeoX.
“We made sure everyone was aligned and started working on our project. Our aim was to create a complex city with a modern theme. We tried to bring everyone’s ideas to life and adapt them along the way.”
A team of eight took on the most challenging aspect of building the city for Aria Creations, seemingly pondering, “How should we begin this new venture?” However, once the project commenced, it progressed rapidly, completing within just 10 days. Perhaps we shouldn’t worry too much about what power the robots may wield after all?
Even without a full team, sometimes you have to accept losses and create without criticizing yourself at every step. “Don’t try to make everything 100% perfect all at once,” advises LNeoX, which is a lesson the team learned during the construction of Complex City.
“Many times, you’ll need to revise details repeatedly, starting over. You’ll lose a lot of time and/or motivation. Even modifications won’t necessarily enhance the overall picture.”
“We always strive to build something greater, focusing on layout, composition, concept, and colors,” shares LNeoX. But the secret to high-quality creation seems to be “being passionate and giving it your all, without setting overly ambitious goals. Just have fun in MCPE.”
