This is a question we’ve all pondered: if Johann Sebastian Bach were alive today, what would he think of the current state of music? He likely wouldn’t have anything positive to say about our modern world; his words would probably be sharp exclamations accompanied by deep sighs. However, if he weren’t a 330-year-old ghost of melodies, I might guess he’d express something like, “No one appreciates a good concert featuring piano and orchestra anymore.”
But fear not, zombie Johann Sebastian Bach! There are enthusiasts who cherish the music that has survived from the 1700s. They, along with us, hold great appreciation for composers such as Bach, Beethoven, Debussy, and even Ariana Grande. Piccho is simply a music lover who adores the piano he created—something Bach would surely admire.
Piccho is among those rare Minecrafters who began their journey using real-world materials.
“As a child, I loved making secret forts out of cardboard,” Piccho fondly recalls. But like all builders, the desire to create more and better could not be satisfied with just cardboard and glue. “One day, I saw my friends watching videos on how to make a piston door in Minecraft. Intrigued by the freedom in the game to build whatever you want, I decided that I was meant to play it.”
Piccho made his debut in Minecraft, trading cardboard for tofu?
In Japan, Minecraft players often describe box-shaped buildings. For instance, those built by new builders are referred to as “tofu buildings.”
Doesn’t that seem like an odd comparison?
“But wait!” Zombie Johann Sebastian Bach asks, “What does this have to do with music?”
Patience, my decaying composer; waiting is also a skill. Besides his passion for building, Piccho is an avid music lover. In fact, he dabbles in composition himself.
“I’ve created many songs for an album, thinking that was the only way to express my love for music in Minecraft Bedrock. However, I discovered I could express my affection by creating instruments like this piano.”
Talented builders amaze audiences with creations that showcase scale, creativity, detail, or in truly impressive cases, a combination of all three. While this piano assembly may not be as massive as a living island, nor as unique as a magical music box, where this piano shines, displaying its intricate beauty.
From the outside, the piano appears to be a solid piece of construction. It resembles something made of wood and strings, much like a traditional piano. You’d never guess it’s actually composed of thousands of blocks including stone, wool, coal, sandstone, and more.
“The piano string was the most challenging part,” Piccho tells me. “The strings in a piano run sideways, but there are some blocks that mimic that shape in Minecraft Pocket Edition. I was fortunate that fence posts worked perfectly for my needs.”
Even though this piano is meticulously constructed, Piccho isn’t necessarily a talented musician, nor does he need to be. “I can’t play the piano at all,” Piccho admits. “But I wouldn’t have built the piano so intricately if I didn’t love music.”
Speaking of favorite music, Piccho has a preferred piano piece.
The zombie Johann Sebastian Bach rises again.
“I listen to all kinds of music, but I’m not very familiar with piano pieces. If I had to choose, I’d go with Chopin’s Fantasie-Impromptu.”
The zombie Johann Sebastian Bach returns to his grave.
Good luck!
