Inventory: bottle of water

After a long day of work, when your mouth is filled with dust, beads of sweat are trickling down your body, and your vocal cords feel like they’re about to burst from the constant feeling of being chased by a skeleton, nothing beats grabbing the most refreshing item in Minecraft Bedrock – a water bottle.

Water bottles were introduced in version 1.0.0 of Minecraft, released in November 2011, alongside the brewing system. This was no coincidence, as water bottles serve as the first step for every potion in the game. That’s pretty much all their functions, since they don’t have any other uses. However, you can use them as a sign for a potion shop by placing a water bottle in an item frame.

Creating a water bottle is something that almost everyone knows how to do. It’s quite simple: just place three glass blocks in the crafting grid, and you’ll get a glass bottle. Then, right-click on water or a cauldron to fill it up. If you’re in the Void and there’s no water source nearby, you’ll likely use a cauldron, which will reduce its contents by one-third each time. It seems like that’s more than what should fit in a bottle; I wonder if the rest spills out?

If you absolutely despise crafting (if so, I’m not sure how you still play Minecraft Pocket Edition), there’s another way to obtain a bottle—try fishing for one! With an unenchanted fishing rod, you have a 1.2% chance of catching a water-filled bottle, which translates to roughly once every 83 casts. I believe in you!

To say that bottles are popular in the real world would be an understatement. In 2016 alone, over 480 billion plastic water bottles were sold globally. Imagine a time, 300 billion years ago, when Earth’s inhabitants had no idea what plastic was, and not a single bottle was discarded into the environment. If we gathered all those bottles together and lined them up, they would stretch more than halfway to the Sun, which, by the way, is incredibly far away!

After use, people throw away all these bottles, despite plastic being a highly recyclable material. As a result, they can be found even in the most remote parts of our planet; some end up in landfills while others make their way into the ocean, where they may linger for hundreds or even thousands of years. According to scientists studying plastic waste, if things continue as they are now, by 2050, the weight of plastic in the ocean could surpass that of all fish combined.

So next time you drink from a bottle, don’t toss it away. Refill it and use it again and again; it makes no difference to you, but it has a huge impact environmentally. Once the bottle is no longer needed, take it to a recycling center; there are many places that accept plastic nowadays. After recycling, it can be transformed back into new products. Otherwise, if people don’t change their attitudes towards nature and the use of nearly non-degradable materials, the Earth will become overwhelmed with trash and plastic, leading to irreversible consequences!
