Experience the thrill of critical hits while sprinting! The Sprinting Crits datapack reintegrates the feature of executing critical hits during sprinting, a capability removed following the 1.9 update, barring specific conditions. This pack successfully restores that exhilarating gameplay aspect.
This datapack introduces a unique critical hit mechanic that operates similarly to standard critical hits, with the exception that it only activates when the player is both falling and sprinting, rather than when merely falling.
Issues to Consider
As a datapack, it operates within the constraints of vanilla Minecraft commands, along with a limited set of specific datapack functions. Unfortunately, this can lead to a few unresolved issues, detailed below:
- The sound effect for death does not trigger when defeating an entity with a sprinting critical hit if a regular hit wouldn’t have been lethal.
- This issue arises from the complexities of the damage invincibility subsystem and death sound mechanics and is challenging to resolve.
- Players are able to land critical hits while sprinting even if their attack meter isn’t fully charged, dealing damage equivalent to a fully charged hit, which may seem overpowered.
- This is currently unavoidable since detecting a player’s attack cooldown accurately is quite difficult.
- However, I plan to address this problem as much as possible in the subsequent update.
- Enchantments like Smite and Bane of Arthropods are not factored into the critical hit calculation.
- This issue will be rectified in the next patch.
- Critical hits while sprinting can influence damage types beyond melee attacks. For instance, if a player shoots an arrow while sprinting and falling, the arrow may inflict 150% of its intended damage, as if it were a critical hit by a weapon. This also applies to any player-initiated damage within the last five seconds, provided the player has not received damage from other sources.
- Currently, there is no feasible method to determine the damage type inflicted on a mob.
- Nevertheless, a temporary fix will be implemented in the next update to ensure that a critical hit cannot occur if the player is positioned too far from the target entity.
Using a sprinting critical hit results in increased knockback for the affected entity.- This is an intended part of the experience.
