The AE2 Crafting Priority mod enhances the autocrafting mechanism in Applied Energistics 2 by introducing a crafting priority system. This feature ensures that when multiple crafting jobs vie for the same machine—such as furnaces or compressors connected through a Pattern Provider—the job assigned a higher priority will utilize the machine first once it becomes available. Development of this mod is supported by Anthropic’s AI assistant, “Claude.”
Overview of AE2 Crafting Priority
This mod serves as an addon for Applied Energistics 2 (AE2) to facilitate crafting priorities. In AE2’s crafting environment, several tasks may compete to access the same processing unit. By incorporating this mod, players can designate a specific priority for each crafting job, streamlining the workflow by allowing higher-priority requests to access machines sooner.
- The mod does not disrupt any ongoing processes; it only manages which task gets priority the next time a machine is free.
- This modification aims for the best possible distribution of crafting tasks across your network, although it does not guarantee strict adherence to the set priorities.
Main Features
The default priority is set at 0, with higher values indicating increased priority. You can assign priority using the built-in priority screen of AE2, which features +1/+10/+100/+1000 buttons and a numeric input field. The priority can be set in three distinct ways:
- Set During Craft Initiation: The process for starting a crafting request alters to “set amount → set priority → select CPU/start.” The priority will apply to whichever Crafting CPU is selected during the initiation of the craft.
- Adjust From the Crafting CPU Screen: A wrench icon located at the top right of the CPU interface allows users to modify the priority of that specific CPU directly.
- Modify via the Terminal’s Crafting Status Tab: To adjust the CPU priority from AE2’s Crafting Status tab, choose a CPU and utilize the wrench icon button to change its priority.
Active CPUs display their current priority next to their names, like CPU #1@1000, and will automatically revert to a priority of 0 after the associated crafting task concludes.
Compatible Addons
The following addon mods for AE2 are verified to function correctly alongside AE2 Crafting Priority:
- AdvancedAE: Priorities also influence the execution order between Quantum Computers.
- Mega Cells: Priority setting integrates seamlessly without additional configuration.
- ExtendedAE: Functions well since it serves as a standard expansion of Pattern Provider.
- Applied Mekanistics: Operates effectively as a standard Pattern Provider enhancement.
System Requirements
- Minecraft version 1.20.1
- Minecraft Forge version 47.4.6 or later (tested on 47.4.10)
- Applied Energistics 2, 1.20.1 branch, 15.x series (confirmed to work on 15.4.10; AE2 requires separate installation)
Installation Guide
- First, install Minecraft Forge.
- Add the Applied Energistics 2 jar file to your
modsfolder. - Next, place the jar file for this mod in the same
modsdirectory. - Finally, launch Minecraft.
Known Limitations
- The functionality of completing jobs in priority order is subject to best-effort execution; under certain circumstances, the completion of jobs may not strictly follow priority.
- The observable effect of priority applies only when multiple crafting tasks are contending for the same machine (Pattern Provider).
- Should “Blocking Mode” be disabled on a Pattern Provider, the mod may experience operational issues due to the behavior of internal inventory.
