The Ultimate Dinosaur Survival Mod for Minecraft
PLEASE NOTE: GECKOLIB FOR 1.12.2 AND MIXINBOOTER MUST BE INSTALLED FOR THIS MOD TO FUNCTION PROPERLY.
Initially designed for Bedrock Edition, Prehistoric Rift is set to be the ultimate dinosaur survival mod for Minecraft Java Edition. Forget about merely reviving dinosaurs for theme parks; in this mod, you’ll encounter a range of prehistoric species populating your terrain, each requiring your skills to tame them.

Getting Started
When you locate a creature in the wild, approach it closely. It will appear as “discovered” in your journal, where you can learn about the food types necessary for taming. Hit “J” to access the “Journal” tab and view the information.
Once you’ve tamed the creature, you can view its entry, including its preferred food for healing and applicable workstation blocks.
In the party screen, where your tamed creature will typically appear, you can summon it, dismiss it, or teleport it to your location if it’s stuck or distant.
Managing Your Creatures
The majority of creatures can be saddled and ridden. Simply place a saddle in the saddle slot of their inventory, and you can explore the world atop them. You can also instruct your mounts to attack or utilize numerous special abilities, conveniently displayed on the lower right of your screen.
Aquatic creatures come with additional controls: press the spacebar to swim up and the “C” key to dive down. Lastly, all creatures (except for purely aquatic ones) can conveniently exit the water by moving toward the closest landblock.
Creature Storage
When your party reaches full capacity, subsequent tamed creatures will be directed to your creature storage box. You’ll need to construct a creature box, as depicted here:
. Within your creature box, you can rename your creatures or release any that you no longer want. You can also deploy them to roam around within a 16-block radius.
Upon deploying certain creatures from your box, you can:
- Activate turret mode for ranged attackers.
- Instruct them to harvest specific blocks.
- Assign a workstation for them to utilize.
Workstation Functionality
Some blocks from Pyrotech serve as workstations for particular creatures, like Parasaurolophuses helping to stoke heating devices and bloomeries, or Ankylosauruses striking blooms on anvils.
By integrating Mystical Mechanics, you can gain access to new blocks that necessitate either mechanical power from this mod, interaction from your creatures, or a combination of both. Many of these blocks support CraftTweaker integration (learn more in this section of the wiki).
Customizing Your Experience
Prehistoric Rift comes with a variety of extensive configuration options. Within the config folder exists a subfolder labeled “prift”, where you can access the general config (for broad settings) and JSON configs for individual creatures. You can modify various stats and traits related to the creatures, including their spawn rates via a customizable spawning system! Here’s an example of configuration settings for the Tyrannosaurus (documentation is coming soon).
