If you are keeping up with the latest updates for Minecraft PE, you might be aware that a certain version will introduce villagers known as cartographers. However, there’s a catch: these villagers do not trade maps. How can this be? We have a solution for you! You can now download and install the mod called More Treasure Maps for Minecraft Pocket Edition, which enables these villagers to trade with you. In the meantime, we await the official addition of this feature in MCPE.
How Does It Work?
In the recent updates of Minecraft Pocket Edition, we haven’t found a way to obtain special maps from the cartographer in the village. The cartographer is a new type of villager introduced in version MCPE 1.1 build 3 (unfortunately, this version is currently only available for beta users on Android). If you haven’t heard about the new features yet, we’re excited to inform you that the new maps will allow you to locate nearby treasure sites.
All newly purchased maps will initially be labeled as Unknown or Map 0, but this is an error, and we hope you won’t pay it much mind.

On these world maps in Minecraft PE, you will notice two types of terrain representation. Let me explain using the screenshot below: areas where the player has not yet traveled while holding the map are displayed simplistically in brown and beige colors. You can also see that the treasure itself is located in this area, marked by a green dot. The second type of terrain display shows all details on the map after you have walked through that territory. I hope everything is clear in the screenshot below.
In the screenshot below, I found myself very close to the sought-after treasure in the MCPE world. In this case, I used the seed johnny appleseed; give it a try yourself!
Head towards the green marker, and you will discover the treasure. I found a desert temple:
