- The MiniRegion mod aims to enhance the existing chunk framework, focusing on decreasing the size of region files. Currently, it is in its Alpha stage, and I strongly advise against utilizing it in your primary worlds. However, if you’re keen on contributing to the mod’s development, feel free to experiment with it in a new world to assess file size differences or identify any errors in your logs. While it can read existing worlds, be aware that any worlds accessed with Mini Region will not be compatible with the vanilla version thereafter. Also, please remember that earlier versions of Mini Region may not align with your current version due to possible breaking changes.
- Here are the current updates being implemented:
- Direct serialization of basic chunk data, achieving approximately a 16% size reduction.
- Decreasing the chunk blocking size from 4096 bytes to 1024 bytes, leading to around a 29% size decrease.
