Enhancing Netherite Interactions
Identifying the Challenge
With the release of version 1.20, Mojang revamped the method for acquiring netherite gear. Initially, players only needed four pieces of netherite scrap and four gold ingots that could be combined at a smithing table. However, the update introduced smithing templates, transforming the smithing table experience by adding a netherite smithing template. Despite these enhancements, the process still feels overly simplistic and lacks intuitiveness. I believe it’s essential to consider the logistical challenges in obtaining netherite, particularly the smelting process. Why, for an item that cannot be burned, can it be smelted normally? It defies logic that something capable of surviving lava exposure would not endure two seconds in a coal-fueled furnace.
The Concept of Soul Charging
Soul Charging represents a novel mechanic applicable to all furnaces. To activate Soul Charging on your furnace, create a Soul Charge. The crafting instructions for this item are illustrated below.
Once you’ve inserted your Soul Charge(s) into the fuel slot of your furnace, it’s time to get cooking! Soul Charging a furnace doubles the cooking speed, and this benefit extends to Blast Furnaces and Smokers as well!
Introducing Soul Blasting
Soul Blasting is an innovative recipe type that operates exclusively in a blast furnace when Soul Charged (or when at least one soul charge is present in the fuel slot). This feature is data-driven and can be customized by accessing this recipe.
Smelting Netherite Scrap with Ease
The primary aim of this mod can now be addressed. To initiate the smelting process, place a soul charge into the fuel slot of the blast furnace. Next, place ancient debris (note that shift-clicking isn’t supported as of now) in the ingredient slot of the furnace to start smelting. It’s interesting to note that while netherite does not burn in soul fire within the game, this detail is merely a design choice to maintain consistency.
