Enhance your Minecraft experience with the Faunus mod, which introduces a fascinating array of new exotic animals.
Faunus is a dynamic animal mod designed for Fabric, bringing a multitude of captivating creatures that are native to the Americas right into your Minecraft world! With its current roster featuring around a dozen new animals, ranging from the ferocious piranhas found in wetlands to the playful capuchin monkeys swinging through jungles, the mod promises even more additions in future updates.
Explore the Jungle
- Quetzals: Beautiful birds that inhabit jungles. Their vibrant feathers can be crafted into a special trinket that boosts your speed and has the power to draw villagers closer.
- Hoatzin: Known for their distinct odor, these birds have a diet consisting mainly of leaves. If you provoke them, you’ll find yourself coated in their smell, which can deter other entities. Their feathers can be repurposed to brew potions that replicate this effect.
- Tapirs: Large creatures serving as the jungle’s equivalent of livestock. They drop nutritious meat and valuable leather but will retaliate if attacked, potentially drawing predators your way! You can breed them using fruits or potatoes and even “milk” them for a unique Bottle of Stink, useful in potion crafting.
- Piranhas: Aggressive fish thriving in swampy waters and jungles alike. These fish are notorious for their speed and can reduce a horse to nothing but bones in mere moments—consider yourself warned!
- Capuchin Monkeys: These curious creatures can be tamed with fruits. A tamed capuchin can be held in your arms and will assist you by collecting items. However, wild ones can turn aggressive if they feel threatened, particularly when in groups—they may scratch, bite, or use other tactics to defend themselves. Tamed monkeys can also be bred with fruits.
Delve into the Swamp
- Yacares: These formidable crocodilians drop meat and can be bred using any type of fish. Rumor has it that their size increases dramatically if they manage to consume a human—proceed with caution!
- Arapaima: A gigantic fish that can be bred using spider eyes and will spawn offspring, although they can still inflict some harm if agitated.
- Leeches: Small parasitic creatures that boast medicinal properties. They attach to their prey to feed on blood and will detach once satiated. These can be captured in bottles and brewed into potions that grant lifesteal abilities or that can summon leeches onto your target when used as splash or lingering potions.
- Crayfish: Found in both common green and rare blue varieties. You can catch them by hand, but be quick! Both types can be cooked, yet the blue ones can additionally be transformed into Potions of the Swamp Crawler.
- Snapping Turtles: These stealthy creatures act like nature’s bear traps, burying themselves in mud with only their heads visible. Approach cautiously, as they will snap at anything that gets too close.
- Songbirds: Charming ambient birds that come in various species reminiscent of tropical fish.
Current Limitations
- Some Arapaima exhibit less activity than expected.
- Iguanas currently do not spawn and yield no drops.
- The appearance of songbirds could use refinement.
