✦ Find Your Ideal Group
Discover all currently active parties using a user-friendly and scrollable party finder.
- Search by the name of the party or its leader
- Apply filters based on available slots, categories, and access type
- Select from Public, Invite Only, or Password Protected options
- Choose a category: Adventure, Building, PvP, Trading, or Other
- Assign a distinctive custom name for your party
- Determine party size, allowing between 2 to 10 players
- Control your party’s visibility on public lists
- Easily invite players who are currently online
- Send invitations manually by entering player names
- Press Enter to launch an invitation from the name field
Access descriptions clarify the functionalities of each party type before saving any settings. For password-protected parties, a password prompt appears only when someone tries to join.
✦ Robust Party Management
Better Party encompasses all necessary tools for efficient group management akin to a typical MMORPG.
- Roles include: Leader, Officer, and Member
- Specific permissions for officers related to inviting and removing members
- Capability to promote or demote participants
- Leadership can be transferred smoothly through a dedicated feature
- Confirmation notifications for major actions
- Alerts when members join or leave
- Scrollable member lists for parties accommodating up to ten players
- Player visuals featured in invitation and member lists
- Individual member portraits highlighted with party-themed borders
- Automatic management of lengthy player names
- Seamless leadership transfer
- Automatic cleanup of inactive parties
Should the party leader go offline or exit the group, leadership is assigned to a qualified member, prioritizing online officers before regular members. Long player names are shortened or repositioned for clarity on visual elements. Duplicate names across parties are not allowed to ensure easy identification.
✦ Dependable Party Invitations
Party invitations automatically secure available slots for their duration.
- Active invitations count towards the overall party capacity
- No extra invitations can exceed the available slots
- Players connecting via the public party search cannot take reserved slots
- Individuals are marked as unavailable when all slots are either occupied or reserved
- Players invited get a green checkmark beside their name
- Invitation entries adjust as invitations are accepted, declined, time out, or become invalid
- Members removed can be invited again immediately
- Invitation windows close once their timer runs out
- A brief cooldown prevents spamming invitations after a decline
- Clear alerts inform when a new invitation cannot be sent yet
Each invitation features a visible 30-second countdown.
✦ Integration with Vanilla Teams
Better Party connects its systems to Minecraft’s vanilla scoreboard team framework. Every Better Party corresponds with a vanilla team, integrating party members into this structure, allowing other mods and systems that acknowledge vanilla teams to recognize Better Party groups.
- Party names and their corresponding vanilla team names are kept in sync
- Changing a Better Party name also renames its vanilla team
- Supported vanilla team alterations are reflected in Better Party
- Party friendly fire settings and the vanilla team’s friendly fire settings stay coordinated
- Disbanding a party also dismantles its corresponding vanilla team
Using the command /team leave will also remove the player from their Better Party. Transitioning to another Better Party-managed team automatically shifts the player’s party affiliation. Team changes are denied if the target party has no vacancies. The HUD updates in real-time after any external team adjustments.
Leadership is shifted when a leader departs from their corresponding team. Better Party only controls vanilla teams linked to its framework. Teams created by admins, other mods, or external systems are not altered. Players affiliated with non-Better Party vanilla teams will remain there. This integration is enabled by default but can be switched off in the server settings.
✦ Member Locator
The member locator empowers players to track teammates obscured by blocks. The party leader can toggle the locator’s functionality for the entire group, and each member can select their desired display option:
- Off
- Dot
- Player Head
- Outline
The locator activates only when another member is entirely obstructed. Players in clear view will remain visible.
Locator Range
- Dots and player heads: up to 128 blocks or 8 chunks
- Outlines: up to 64 blocks or 4 chunks
Personal Locator Adjustments
- Visibility can be adjusted between 10% and 100%
- Intensity settings can be modified in 10% increments
- Display the player head using their normal skin
- Dots and outlines reflect party color
- Utilize distinct, easily identifiable player shapes
If the locator is disabled by the party leader, a corresponding notification will be shown within the personal HUD settings.
✦ Distinct Party Colors
Every one of the ten party slots is assigned a unique and easily recognizable color.
- Each member is given an individual color
- Colors are never duplicated within a single party
- Players are allocated the first available slot when they join
- Colors are assigned per party
- Colors do not carry over when moving to a different party
- Colors are consistently displayed throughout the interface
The designated color shows up in:
- Party HUD entries
- Member lists
- Borders of player portraits
- Locator dots
- Player outlines
The party leader is also highlighted with a crown for easy identification throughout the Better Party interface.
✦ Adventure Together
Collaborating in gameplay should yield rewarding experiences.
Equitable XP Distribution
The party leader can activate experience sharing with the option to choose between two ranges:
- 1 chunk / 16 blocks
- 2 chunks / 32 blocks
XP gathered is fairly allocated among all qualifying party members within the selected range. Any individual XP points that can’t be evenly distributed are rotated among players to ensure no single player is persistently favored.
Protection Against Friendly Fire
Party leaders have the authority to decide if members can inflict damage on one another. With the vanilla team integration switched on, the friendly fire settings from both the party and the corresponding vanilla team remain synchronized.
Exclusive Party Chat
Utilize:
/p
Party messages appear directly in the standard Minecraft chat, marked with a unique golden [Party] prefix, eliminating the need for an additional chat window.
✦ Fully Customizable Party HUD
Monitor your entire group without needing to navigate through menus. The live HUD can exhibit:
- Player heads
- Player names
- Experience levels
- Leader crown
- Health bars
- Exact health values
- Armor status
- Optional hunger levels
- Online and offline indicators
- Distinct party colors
Player names and health details remain visible, ensuring that essential information is readily accessible.
✦ Visual HUD Configuration
The party HUD can be moved and resized using a complete visual editing tool.
- Adjust the HUD directly using your mouse
- Change the size of the HUD with the mouse wheel
- Utilize arrow keys for precise adjustments
- Switch between horizontal and vertical layouts
- Preview the final HUD design before finalizing the edit
- View between 2 to 10 preview players
- Preview different names, health points, levels, and party colors
- Reset position, size, layout, and preview player count

The information panel will shift out of the way if the HUD overlaps it. HUD settings can also be accessed before joining a party. Every player has the option to configure their own HUD setup independently:
- Scale from 10% to 150%
- Choose horizontal or vertical layouts
- Flexible X and Y positioning
- Optional HUD legend
- Show offline members in gray or hide them altogether
- Sort by party position, leader first, name, or lowest health
- Create a custom member order
- Select from various colorblind-friendly display options
- Activate high-contrast mode
All menus within Better Party will adapt automatically to Minecraft’s set GUI scale and screen resolution.
✦ Convenience Inventory Shortcut
Access Better Party directly from your player inventory through a specialized party button. Two icon designs can be chosen from, with the ability to switch between them via the personal HUD settings. This inventory button can be:
- Freely moved with the mouse
- Resized using the mouse wheel
- Previewed while editing
- Reset to its original position
- Completely hidden
The information panel will adjust its position away from the button during repositioning. Additionally, the Better Party menu can be accessed at any point using the default key:
Y
This key can be modified through the regular Minecraft control settings.
✦ Personalized and Group Settings
Party leaders manage settings that affect the entire group:
- Name of the party
- Maximum number of participants
- Access type
- Party category
- Visibility status
- Officer permissions
- Friendly fire options
- XP sharing setup
- XP sharing radius
- Member locator functionality
Modifications to party settings are applied post-saving, preventing any accidental changes. Individual HUD settings permit each player to adjust their display without impacting others within the party.
✦ Support for Add-ons
Better Party accommodates compatible standalone add-ons that broaden the party system with extra integrations and customizable options. These add-ons can add individual settings pages directly within the Better Party HUD settings menu.
- The Add-on Settings button is only visible when a supporting add-on is installed
- In the absence of any add-ons, the standard settings menu remains untouched
- Integrations can be installed independently
- Players and server administrators are free to install only the integrations they wish to utilize
This approach enables features such as maps, waypoints, claims, RPG elements, and others to integrate with Better Party without being directly incorporated into the main mod.
✦ Available Add-ons:
- Better Party × Waystones
✦ Built for Multiplayer
Better Party is entirely server-authoritative. Membership, permissions, invitations, reserved slots, PvP safeguards, experience distribution, team synchronization, and other critical actions are validated through the server. Better Party is compatible with:
- Singleplayer realms
- LAN-opened worlds
- Dedicated servers
For multiplayer scenarios, Better Party must be installed on both the server and client systems participating in the game.
✦ Future Add-ons on the Horizon
The following optional integrations are slated for release as separate Better Party add-ons:
- Support for Waystones
- Compatibility with Xaero’s Minimap and World Map
