How to Train Your Dragon

The live-action remake of "How to Train Your Dragon" in 2025 takes us back to the island of Berk, where Vikings have been destroying dragons for centuries. Young Hiccup (Mason Thames) — the son of chief Stoick (Gerard Butler) — does not fit into the tribe's traditions: he is weak by warrior standards, but a brilliant inventor and dreamer who does not want to kill. During another attack, he injures a Night Fury — the rarest and most dangerous dragon — and instead of finishing it off, he decides to help it. The film retains the spirit of the original 2010 version: dynamic flights, witty humor, and an emotional story about acceptance of the other. Nico Parker plays Astrid — a strong and independent girl who is initially a rival, then an ally. Nick Frost and Gabriel Howell add comedic color as friends and fellow tribesmen. Director Dean DeBlois, who also directed the animated film, emphasizes realistic visuals: the CGI dragons look alive, the locations of Berk are epic, and John Powell's soundtrack is iconic.
